Sports Medicine Center

Our Sports Medicine Center focuses on comprehensive non-surgical treatment of sports injuries and the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis and osteoporosis.

The Center is led by James N. Johnson, M.D., a noted longtime Nashville sports medicine physician. The Sports Medicine Center is located at the Cool Springs location.

In most instances, the Center offers same-day, in-house X-ray, MRI, CT, physical therapy, chiropractic care, and bone density testing, as well as on-site emg/nerve conduction studies. Other therapies include musculoskeletal Botox and platelet-rich plasma treatments (this latter treatment is often helpful to those suffering from tendonitis or plantar fasciitis) and supartz hyaluronic acid injections for knee arthritis.

Dr. Jim Johnson is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University’s School of Medicine. He completed a residency at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, and completed a sports medicine fellowship at Stanford University and San Jose Medical Center in California.

Serving as a clinical assistant professor at Meharry Medical College, Dr. Johnson is also a clinical instructor at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine’s department of family medicine. Among his affiliations with local, regional, and national sports teams, Dr. Johnson is a team physician for the U.S. Olympic swim team, the USA national swim team, Nashville Ballet, and the Nashville Aquatic Club. He is the former team doctor for the Nike Farm Team professional running club and Stanford University athletics.

Dr. Johnson has years of experience caring for all types of athletes, from the young to the seasoned. His knowledge and experience in sports medicine and arthritis/osteoporosis widens and complements the array of services that The Pain Management Group offers its patients.
